
BIOGRAPHY
Pianist Yoon Chung has performed in France, Germany, Italy, Spain, Norway, Japan, Korea and the US. In the UK, he has appeared in prestigious venues such as Wigmore Hall, the South Bank, St. John's Smith Square, Bridgewater Hall and Waterfront Hall. His performances have been broadcast in France, Japan, Korea and the US.
Born in Seoul, Korea, Yoon spent his formative years in London as a scholar at Purcell School of Music studying with the late Mme Maria Curcio and Mark Swartzentruber and holds degrees from University of Bristol and Royal Northern College of Music.
Yoon was selected to attend Villecroze Academie, IMS Prussia Cove, the Van Cliburn Institute and participated in masterclasses with Stephen Kovacevich, Stephen Hough, Ferenc Rados, Arnaldo Cohen, Jean-Francois Heisser, Yo-Yo Ma, Dina Joffe, Renna Kellaway and the late Gyorgy Sebok.
Yoon was a major prizewinner at the 2000 Dudley International Piano Competition and was a finalist at YCAT Auditions in London and Chamber Music International Chamber Music Competition in the US.
In 2002, Yoon graduated from Royal Northern College of Music where he was awarded numerous prizes including Sir Charles Halle Scholarship, Sir Barbirolli Prize, Norman George Duo Prize and the Clifton Helliwell Prize for the highest distinction in Postgraduate Diploma and Professional Performance Diploma (PPRNCM). His studies at RNCM were supported by Royal Schools of Music Postgraduate Scholarship, Else and Leonard Cross Memorial Scholarship and the MBF.
The following year, Yoon was chosen as a Joel Estes Scholar and Meadows Artistic Scholar to study under the tutelage of Professor Joaquin Achucarro at Southern Methodist University in Dallas, Texas. During his time in the US, Yoon won the Von Mickwitz Prize and was subsequently featured in the Meadows Rising Stars Series. In 2005, he made his debut in a televised concert at the Myerson Symphony Center. He also performed at Steinway Hall, Meadows Museum and Dallas Museum of Art.
In addition, Yoon was a vocal coach and collaborative pianist at the University of Texas (UTA) and Southern Methodist University.
Before his return to London, Yoon pursued further private studies with Maestro Ferenc Rados in Budapest.
