Andrew Brownell has been a multiple prizewinner in international competitions, including 2nd Prize and Benjamin Britten Prize at the 2006 Leeds Internatinoal Pianoforte Competition and 1st Prize at the 2005 J. N. Hummel Competition in Bratislava.  Mr. Brownell won 2nd Prize ex aequo at the 2002 International J. S. Bach Competition in Leipzig, the only American pianist to have ever won a prize in the history of the competition. 

Andrew Brownell has played recitals and concerts across North America and Europe.  His performances have been heard on BBC radio and television, NPR, CBC, Mitteldeutscher Rundrunk, and Slovak Radio.  He has been soloist with the Hallé, Brighton Philharmonic (UK), Slovak Philharmonic, Slovak Sinfonietta, Mitteldeutscher Kammerorchester, Hermitage State Orchestra (Russia), Oregon Symphony, and the Vancouver Symphony (US).  Mr. Brownell has collaborated with such conductors as Mark Elder, Murray Sidlin, MihaĊ‚ Dworzynski, Friedrich Haider, and Jorge Velazco.

Highlights for the current season include a Paris debut recital at the Salle Cortot, an engagement with the Royal Liverpool Philharmonic, and concerts across Europe and the United States.

A native of Portland, Oregon, Andrew Brownell began studying the piano at the age of four.  His teachers have included Nellie Tholen of Portland, Oregon; Nancy Weems and Horacio Gutiérrez at the University of Houston; and John Perry at the University of Southern California (Los Angeles).  Mr. Brownell is currently pursuing doctoral work in the class of Joan Havill at the Guildhall School of Music and Drama in London.

An enthusiastic collaborative artist, Andrew Brownell was a member of a prize-winning trio at the 1996 Fischoff Chamber Music Competition.  Also an accomplished organist, Mr. Brownell has served at several prominent churches in the southwest US, including St. James' Episcopal Church, Los Angeles; he has appeared as a recitalist across the United States, and was recently made an Associate of the Royal College of Organists.
