
Duo Crastan Vl/Piano
Silvia Crastan, violinist, was born in Basel. She studied in Switzerland obtaining the BA in Music and MA in Music Performance (violin studies with N. Chumachenco, C. Romano and U. Lehmann)
Additional experience includes masterclasses with V. Pikaisen, W. Wilkomirska, P.Amoyal. In 1995 she was invited to the European Mozart Academy in Krakau (Polen). She was a prize winner in the "Swiss National Youth Competition“ and the "International Youth Competition of Stresa" in Italy.
For many years Silvia worked with several prestigeous orchestras in Switzerland including Basel Sinfonietta, Symphony Orchestra of Biel, Sinfonietta Lausanne and Swiss Chamber Orchestra, before she won a scholarship from the "Dienemann-Stiftung" (Lucerne) and the municipality Evilard (Fond Suri) which funded further postgraduate study in London at the "Guildhall School of Music and Drama" where she studied violin with Ifrah Neaman (1999/2001). Since 2001 she works freelance in London and has played as a soloist with the Camden Chamber Orchestra (Levon Parikian, conductor), the North London Philharmonia, the Phoenix Orchestra. It was October 2006 when she first time came to India to give a workshop at Delhi Music School and to play Bach Violin Concerto with the Kolkata Chamber Orchestra.
Along with her solo work Silvia performs with the "Duo Crastan" and the "Fumasoli Trio" and teaches her own, highly successful, violin class in Hampstead Garden Suburb, London.
Eva Crastan, pianist, was born in Basel. After her Matura she gave her undivided attention to music obtaining the BA in Music and MA in Music Performance (piano studies with R. Petkova, K.-A. Kolly and D.Höxter). In addition she studied early music at the Schola Cantorum Basiliensis,(BA in Music) with main instrument recorder.
Piano Awards include the 2nd prize at the „Swiss Youth Competition„ and the 3rd prize at the „International Youth Competition of Stresa„ (Italy).
She has attended masterclasses with V. Merzhanov, H. Francesch and represented Switzerland at the international „Maraton pianistico„ in Spain.
End of 2004 she finished her studies at the Zurich University with a MA in Musicology and German/Scandinavian literature. During an exchange in Lund (Sweden) she could concentrate intensively on swedish music.
In 2007 she got a MAS (Master in Advanced Studies) in music management from Basel University.
Next to her concert activity with the "Duo Crastan" and the "Fumasoli Trio" she is teaching a piano class at the music school in Kilchberg near Zurich, where she is also active as an Academic Supervisor for the music schools of Canton Zurich.
In addition she is a commitee member of the "Swiss Paedagogical Society" and the "FrauenMusikForum" (platform for female composers).
Silvia and Eva Crastan have been working as a duo for many years under the directorship of the israeli pianist Daniel Höxter and the late violinist Ifrah Neaman. In 1996 they were invited to the masterclass of Pierre Amoyal and Pavel Gililov in Lausanne. They have given recitals in Switzerland (Societe Philharmonique de Bienne, Laudinella St. Moritz), Italy (Societa dei Concerti Milano, A.Gi.Mus Padova, Teatro di Saronno), England (Milton Keynes City Church Series, St. Martin-in-the-Fields, Lotherton Hall Leeds) and Netherlands (Boekmanzaal of the Stopera, Amsterdam). In Oktober 2007 they toured India (Delhi, Poona and Bombay) supported by Pro Helvetia and the "Schweizerische Interpreten-Stiftung".
