Ting Chiu - Viola

Biography

Born in Hong Kong in 1982, Chiu moved to Manchester and started his violin studies at the age of 13. Within a short time Chiu had given his debut solo with an orchestra and went on to win competitions including the West Pennine Music Festival. Before changing to the viola, Chiu led various ensembles including the Birmingham University Philharmonic Orchestra, performing at venues such as The Royal Festival Hall. During his Masters degree in viola performance with Rivka Golani, Chiu has appeared as recitalist and section principal around the Midlands. Future engagements include concerto appearances and chamber music projects. Chiu is also a sought-after music coach, giving chamber music coaching at Dartington International Summer School.
